An Interview with Julie!

Stillness promo

Hi Everyone,

How much would I love to sit down with you, have a coffee, and talk about my upcoming show?! So much!! Lol!

However, this latest show is happening right in the middle of Bar-B-Q season, which means that we’re all crazy busy . . . in the best way possible!

So here’s my time-saving solution; a little interview I recorded, with my brother Paul’s help, which was SO much fun to do! Just a 5 minute interview that gives an idea about what I’ve been working on lately and how the work on the show is going.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it! 🙂

And hope you can make it!

Special thanks to Paul!!

Julie

Leaves of Red

Leaves of Red – by Julie Berthelot, 2014

So much of 2014 was spent doing commissioned work! So, I thought I’d post some pictures of these pieces in their new homes.

The picture above was a commission I did for Wendy Carroll. I’m so in love with this piece! And we were on the same page from day one, so it was quite an easy and fun painting to make.

Below is a mini slide show of this piece in her home, along with ‘The Valley’ which she had also purchased previously. They BOTH look like they were made for those lovely spaces! (Even though only one of them was) 😉

Thanks so much for letting me post these, Wendy!

I was also lucky enough to get some great pictures of another series of commissioned pieces recently. These are a follow up to the December 23, 2013 post, which was about a series of paintings I did based on my client’s travels. If you’d like to see a bit of a ‘making of’ story for these, please check out ‘The Journey‘. To see these paintings in their amazing new home, just take a look at the little slide show below.

I’ve also been drawing a lot of portraits lately, which is always a nice break from getting messy in the basement studio! Mostly they’ve been portraits of close friends and family of my clients, (which I don’t always like to post in order to guard their privacy). One fun example, though, is this portrait that my aunt commissioned of my Dad and Uncle Dan playing marbles a VERY long time ago! Love this one! 🙂

That’s it for now.

If getting a commissioned piece is something that interests you, please check out my page on commissioning artwork and feel free to contact me any time for more info.

All the best!

Julie

The Abstract Show

Red River Painting

Here is my contribution for the Abstract Show happening at Orange Art Gallery this month and opening March 12th, 2015 (6-10pm).

I’ll definitely be there, (already got clearance from the father of my children . . . yaaaaay!) and I really can’t wait to see what all the other artists came up with. I’ve already heard that some of the artist are working way out of their usual style, so we’ll see what that looks like when it’s all up on the wall together!

Fun! 🙂

Live Painting for Nuit Blanche 2014!

Nuit Blanche Ottawa 2012Location: Orange Art Gallery – 290 City Centre Ave. Ottawa ON

Date: September 20th, 2014 – 6pm to 4am (corrected)

Hello Everyone!

Just letting you know that this Saturday, I’ll be PAINTING LIVE at Orange Art Gallery for the 3rd annual Nuit Blanche Ottawa

Nuit Blanche is a celebration of art taking place overnight from 6 pm to 4 am on Saturday, September 21st, offering a wide variety of great art happenings all around the city. You can check out all the details here.

I’ll be there with several of the other artists from Orange, painting and drawing live for everyone that stops by. I did this a couple of years ago and it was so much fun to work alongside other artists like Stephen Frew and Daniel Martelock (as opposed to alone in my basement, lol!) and to chat with everyone that stopped by while maintaining a caffein high. Haa!

Really looking forward to doing it again.

Should be a great time!

Hope you can make it!

Julie

Moving on!

Current location of Orange Art Gallery – 233 Armstrong St. Ottawa

If you’ve visited my site you know that the gallery I’ve mainly shown in for the past three years is Orange Art Gallery.

They’ve been very supportive and fun to work with and I’m pleased to announce that they’ll be moving to a new location on April 1st, 2014!

I spoke to Jim at the gallery and he said they’d be moving to a stone building (not far from their current location), which was originally a bank and which will provide for two floors of great wall space for art.

I can’t wait to see what this will all look like!

The down side is that they’ll be closed for the move during the month of March, but that still leaves plenty of time to have a look at what they’re showing this winter, like ‘The Cardinal’, which I’ve just dropped off, (and can be seen below).

I’ll be updating with more info on the new place this spring.

Thanks for checkin in!
